Santa Clara County covers the densest concentration of technology companies in the country. Santa Clara's semiconductor history left a cluster of data centers that lean on backup battery power. Mountain View's North Bayshore and Sunnyvale's campuses retire servers and UPS systems at scale, and Palo Alto adds Stanford research labs and corporate headquarters. San Jose, the county seat and largest city, mixes enterprise offices, county facilities and small businesses. At the south end, Gilroy and Morgan Hill are still agricultural and light-industrial, and they get standard route-based pickups like anywhere else.
- San Jose: enterprise offices, county facilities and small businesses.
- Santa Clara: semiconductor firms and colocation operators with battery banks.
- Sunnyvale: tech campuses and aerospace-adjacent engineering firms near Moffett Field.
- Mountain View: data center and UPS decommissioning for North Bayshore campuses.
- Palo Alto: research labs and corporate headquarters.
- Milpitas: semiconductor manufacturing and warehouses.
- Campbell: small and mid-size businesses with steady, smaller volumes.
- Morgan Hill and Gilroy: light industry, outlet retail and farm-adjacent businesses.
We also serve Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Saratoga, Stanford and the Alum Rock area.
Any retired business electronics: servers and networking racks, UPS and backup battery systems, desktops, laptops, monitors and TVs, copiers and printers, phone systems, test and control equipment, all battery chemistries and hard drives. The services involved:
- Data center and UPS decommissioning and server equipment recycling.
- IT asset disposition for fleets with resale value.
- Battery recycling for battery banks, sorted by chemistry.
- Secure data destruction with certificates of destruction.
A full data center exit and a two-box pickup in Campbell use the same six steps: containers, training, pickup by our own crews, tracking with serial numbers when scoped, reuse-first processing at our Sacramento facility, and certificates and reports tied to your asset list. Pickups run under our ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certifications.
We don't provide residential services; pickups are for businesses and agencies. Residents can find a nearby site on CalRecycle's list, and our sister company, Secure Recycle, takes household electronics at our Sacramento address, 3921 Pell Circle. Electronics and batteries can't go in the trash under California's universal waste rules.
Can you coordinate pickups across several campuses?
Yes. Multi-site clients often schedule Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and San Jose locations together, with separate tickets and reports for each site.
What happens to working servers?
After data sanitization, working equipment is reviewed for resale. Recovery value depends on the inventory and is never assumed in advance.
Request a quote with your city and project scope, from a single server rack to a full data center exit.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!
