A Smaller-Scale Neighbor to Silicon Valley's Tech Core

Campbell is a smaller, more residential city bordering San Jose, home to small and mid-size businesses that sit adjacent to the tech industry without the scale of a large corporate campus down the road. Recycling needs here tend to be steadier and smaller in volume than the surrounding tech centers, arriving a few boxes at a time rather than by the truckload, but they're no less in need of a properly certified process. Campbell's downtown corridor and surrounding neighborhoods are a mix of longtime local businesses and newer service companies, many of which have never had a documented electronics recycling vendor before.

Who uses our e-waste pickup in Campbell
  • Small and mid-size local businesses: retail shops, professional offices, and service businesses along Campbell's downtown corridor generating routine, modest-volume electronics turnover.
  • Tech-adjacent contractors and vendors: smaller firms supplying or servicing larger Silicon Valley companies nearby, often with their own compliance obligations to meet.
  • Property managers: occasional rental-property electronics disposal that doesn't fit neatly into a recurring pickup schedule.
What e-waste items qualify for pickup from Campbell?

Desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, networking equipment, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives with certified destruction, scaled to whatever volume a smaller business needs. There's no minimum load size, so a single closet's worth of old equipment gets the same certified handling as a full office clear-out, with the same documentation either way.

The full list also includes copiers, phone systems, TVs, modems, UPS battery backups, audio and video equipment and battery-embedded devices. A closet in a downtown Campbell office tends to hold a little of everything, and all of it can go in one pickup.

How is e-waste recycled for Campbell businesses?

A few boxes from Campbell follow the same six steps as a campus refresh:

  1. Equipment: we supply containers and labels, sized for a small office.
  2. Training: a Field Service Manager explains what goes where.
  3. Pickup: our own crew collects it.
  4. Tracking: a ticket number and weight for the load, serial numbers if you need them.
  5. Processing: drives are wiped or destroyed, and equipment is reused where possible before recycling.
  6. Reports: certificates and a report for your files.

Campbell pickups follow our ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process, giving small businesses the same documented compliance standard used by much larger neighboring employers, without requiring a minimum volume to qualify.

Can I throw e-waste in the trash in Campbell?

No. California treats discarded electronics and batteries as universal waste, so they can't go in a trash bin or dumpster in Campbell or anywhere else in the state. A property manager with electronics left in a rental can book a pickup. We don't provide residential services. Households should use a local collection site from CalRecycle's list or our sister company, Secure Recycle, at 3921 Pell Circle in Sacramento.

Where can a Campbell business recycle old laptops and computers?

Book a pickup, even for a handful. Laptops and computers are the devices most likely to hold client or payroll data, so we separate their drives for secure data destruction before anything is reused or recycled.

A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.

Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
