If your office has a closet of retired computers, or your shop has a bin of used tool batteries, you can bring them to us. Our e-waste drop-off in Sacramento is at our own recycling facility, 3921 Pell Circle, Sacramento, CA 95838. It takes electronics and batteries from businesses, public agencies and institutions, and each load can leave with a certificate.
Modern Waste Solutions has recycled electronics and batteries and destroyed data from this Sacramento facility since 1999. This page covers where a business can drop off electronic waste, what to bring, how to prepare devices that hold company data, and when a scheduled pickup makes more sense. We don't provide residential services, so households have a separate option through our sister company, described below.

The facility is in north Sacramento, a short drive from North Highlands, Rio Linda, Antelope, and the rest of the Sacramento area. If you're bringing more than a carload, call first so we can plan for it.
The drop-off is for businesses and organizations: offices, contractors, clinics, schools, public agencies and other institutions. A small office clearing out a few computers, or a contractor with a bin of used tool batteries, can usually handle it in one trip. For larger loads, see the section on pickups below.
Modern Waste Solutions doesn't provide residential services. Households and consumers can recycle electronics through our sister company, Secure Recycle, which operates from the same address at 3921 Pell Circle. Its website lists what it accepts and when to come by. If you live far from Sacramento, CalRecycle lists collection sites across California.
Retired office and IT equipment, including desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, servers, networking gear, phones and tablets, UPS battery backups and hard drives. We also take batteries of every common chemistry, from alkaline cells to lithium-ion and lead acid. The business electronics recycling and battery recycling pages list what we process in more detail.
Bringing TVs or large monitors? Call (916) 339-3676 before you load them. Televisions, CRTs and damaged screens need separate handling, so a call saves you a wasted trip.
Devices that stored company, customer or employee data need attention before they leave your building. A little preparation also makes the drop-off faster.
- Make a simple list of what's in the load, with serial numbers for any devices you need reported by serial.
- Sign devices out of company accounts and device-management tools, and turn off locks such as Find My on Apple devices or the Google account lock on Android.
- Pack loose hard drives and SSDs in their own box, and tell us if you want any drive destroyed.
- Take batteries out of devices when they come out easily, and keep them together in a box or bag.
- Put tape over the terminals of lithium, 9-volt, and button-cell batteries so they can't short against each other.
- Bag any swollen, leaking, or damaged battery on its own and tell our staff about it when you arrive.
Equipment that held customer, patient, or employee data usually needs proof of how the data was handled, which is where a certificate matters.
Yes. A business that drops off electronics can ask for a certificate of recycling. Drives in equipment that can be reused are tested and wiped, and any drive that fails, arrives loose, or that you want destroyed is shredded and covered by a certificate of destruction. Tell us at drop-off which paperwork you need so we can record the load correctly.
For hard drives and other media, see hard drive destruction and NIST 800-88 drive wiping. Our guide to the certificate of destruction explains what the document should list and why auditors ask for it.
Drop-off works for small, occasional loads that fit in a vehicle. A scheduled pickup usually makes more sense when:
- the load is palletized or too heavy to move safely in a car or pickup truck
- you generate e-waste or batteries every month and want a regular route-based pickup
- you need drives shredded at your site before anything leaves, with our on-site hard drive shredding
- you manage several locations, or need collection containers and staff training
Pickups are for businesses and organizations only. We run them across much of California and parts of Nevada; request a quote and we'll suggest the right option.
No. California's Department of Toxic Substances Control treats most discarded electronic devices and batteries as universal waste, which can't go in household or business trash. They contain lead, mercury, cadmium, and lithium, and batteries cause fires in garbage trucks and transfer stations when they're crushed. Sending them to a recycler keeps them out of the landfill and lets the metals and plastics be recovered.
Businesses can drop off at our facility, 3921 Pell Circle, Sacramento, CA 95838, Monday through Thursday, 7:00am to 3:00pm. Households can use our sister company, Secure Recycle, at the same address.
No. We don't provide residential services, and pickups are for businesses and organizations. Households can recycle electronics through Secure Recycle, our sister company at the same Sacramento address.
Yes. Old computers and laptops are among the most common items businesses bring us. Working equipment is tested and wiped for reuse where it passes, and drives that fail, loose drives, and any drive you want destroyed are shredded.
At the same facility. Keep batteries in a box or bag, tape the terminals on lithium and 9-volt batteries, and bag any damaged battery separately.
Yes, for loads that fit in a vehicle. Ask for a certificate of recycling or destruction when you arrive if you need one for your records.
Businesses can bring electronics and batteries during drop-off hours. For more than a vehicle load, recurring volume, or data destruction requirements, get a quote or call (916) 339-3676.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
