Rio Linda is an unincorporated community north of Sacramento, next to Elverta and just west of the old McClellan base. It has kept its rural feel, with acre-plus lots, horse and livestock properties, and backyard shops along Rio Linda Boulevard and the surrounding roads. A lot of the local economy is home-based: electricians, mechanics, welders, landscapers, small farms, and online businesses.
Those operations produce more batteries than office e-waste. Tractor and truck batteries, cordless tool packs, solar and gate-opener batteries, and backup units pile up in sheds, next to old computers and phones. Our facility in the 95838 ZIP code is only a few miles away, so Rio Linda businesses are close to us for either pickup or drop-off.
- lead acid batteries from tractors, trucks, and equipment
- lithium-ion and nickel battery packs from tools and yard equipment
- batteries from gate openers, solar setups, and backup systems
- office computers, laptops, printers, and phones
- diagnostic tools, chargers, and shop electronics
- hard drives from business computers
The battery recycling page lists every chemistry we accept and how to store them before pickup.
For a small operation, the simplest setup is a battery container and an electronics container kept apart in your shop. We show you how to tape terminals and set aside any damaged or swollen battery. When they're full, we collect them, or you bring them in. Each load is logged at intake. Electronics are tested for reuse or dismantled into material streams, batteries are sorted by chemistry, and everything goes to approved recyclers under our ISO-certified processes. A certificate of recycling is available for your records.
Old business computers are recycled the same way, with the drive handled first. We shred it or wipe it to NIST 800-88 and issue a certificate of destruction on request. That matters if the computer ever held customer payment details or employee information. More on hard drive destruction.
No, and burning or burying them on the property is off the table too. California treats discarded electronics and most batteries as universal waste, so they can't go in household or commercial trash or be dumped. Lead acid batteries can leak acid and lead, and lithium packs can catch fire when crushed.
Our recycling center at 3921 Pell Circle, Sacramento, CA 95838, is a short drive south of Rio Linda. Businesses can book a pickup or deliver small loads there; our business drop-off page covers what to bring. We don't provide residential services or pick up from homes, and that includes home-based businesses. Rio Linda households and home-based trades can recycle electronics through our sister company, Secure Recycle, at the same address.
Businesses can request a quote for a pickup. We also serve nearby Antelope, North Highlands, and Sacramento, and the rest of Sacramento County.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
