Our trucks run regular routes out of Sacramento. Your business becomes a stop on one of them, visited on a fixed schedule, so you don't book each collection. Because the truck is already nearby, a route stop can usually take a smaller load than a special trip. Minimums depend on the route and the material.
The containers and labels come with the service. A typical route customer has:
- A 96-gallon e-waste bin or a 175-gallon caster cart for electronics
- 5-gallon battery buckets, one each for alkaline, rechargeable and lithium batteries
- A 27-gallon tub for lead-acid batteries or mixed lamps if the site produces them
Keeping chemistries apart matters. Damaged lithium cells can short and ignite, so set aside any swollen battery and tell us before the next visit.
We don't subcontract collection. Our Field Service Managers lead the pickups, check how the containers are being used, and correct sorting problems while they're on site. If containers fill faster than expected, we change the container size or the stop frequency.
Each load gets a ticket number with material type, weight and dates, followed by a certificate of recycling. If you add hard drives, you also receive a certificate of destruction listing them by serial number.
For a larger load from a refresh, cleanout or move, book an on-call pickup through the schedule a pickup form or call (916) 339-3676. Route pickup is for businesses and organizations. We don't provide residential services; households can use our sister company, Secure Recycle, at 3921 Pell Circle, Sacramento.
Small and mid-size businesses rarely fill a truck at once. Dead batteries, a retired printer and an old monitor build up over weeks. As a stop on one of our regular routes out of Sacramento, your site keeps labeled bins and battery buckets on hand, our crew empties them on a set schedule, and each pickup is logged under its own ticket.
Simplify your compliance and disposal process with bundled recycling services that handle both electronic devices and batteries in one streamlined solution.
Our scheduled, route-based pickups cover all major regions of California—ensuring efficient, on-time service no matter where you operate.
We provide clearly labeled, tamper-resistant containers to ensure safe and compliant collection of electronic waste and batteries at your location.
Modern Waste Solutions has served businesses and communities across California with dependable, environmentally responsible recycling solutions for over two decades.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!

We have answers.
Each load is logged under a ticket number in our database with the material type, weight, and pickup and processing dates. After processing you receive a certificate of recycling for general electronics and batteries.
If the load included hard drives or other data-bearing devices that were destroyed, you also get a certificate of destruction that lists them by serial number. Keep these with your universal waste records; they show where the material went if an inspector or client asks.
Our operation is certified to ISO 9001 for quality management, ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for health and safety.
- Request a quote and tell us your address, what you generate (electronics, batteries, lamps) and roughly how much.
- We choose containers to match. An office might need one e-waste bin and a few battery buckets; a busier site might need a 175-gallon caster cart.
- We set how often the truck stops, based on how fast your containers fill.
- A Field Service Manager shows your staff what goes in each container at the first visit.
If you're already a client and need an extra pickup between route visits, use our schedule a pickup form or call (916) 339-3676.
Our trucks run regular routes out of Sacramento. Route-based pickup adds your business as a stop on one of those routes, so your containers are emptied on a set schedule without you having to book each visit.
Because the truck is already in your area, a route stop can usually take a smaller load than a special trip would. Minimums depend on the route and the material. If your ZIP code isn't on a regular route, ask anyway: larger loads and scheduled bulk pickups can often be arranged off-route.
| Container | Material | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Battery buckets | Alkaline, rechargeable, lithium or mixed batteries, one chemistry per bucket | 5 gallon, about 40 lbs |
| Lithium battery drum | Lithium batteries | 3 or 5 gallon |
| Lead battery tub | Lead-acid batteries | 27 gallon, about 120 lbs |
The containers and labels come with the service. On each visit our crew swaps or empties them, and at our facility the batteries are sorted by chemistry again before recycling. You receive a certificate of recycling for the pickup. More detail on accepted chemistries is on our battery recycling page.
We run every pickup with our own trucks and crews. Collections aren't handed to subcontractors or parcel carriers, so every visit follows the same chain of custody and the same service standard.
Our Field Service Managers look at your storage area on each visit. If lithium batteries have ended up in the alkaline bucket or a container is filling faster than expected, they fix it on the spot and adjust the schedule or container size. When your volume changes, tell us and we'll change the stop frequency.
Batteries collect in small amounts, which is why they get forgotten: a drawer of dead AAs, a tray of laptop batteries, a UPS battery on the warehouse floor. Mixed together they can short, and a damaged lithium cell can start a fire.
- Chemistries mixed in one box instead of sorted.
- Containers with no label or start date, which California's universal waste rules require.
- Material sitting on site past the allowed accumulation time because nobody booked a pickup.
A route visit on a fixed schedule empties the buckets before they fill up, and the crew checks the sorting while they're there.
| Route-based pickup | On-call pickup | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Steady volume: batteries, small electronics, lamps | Irregular loads: refreshes, cleanouts, office moves |
| Scheduling | Fixed interval, no booking needed | Booked when you need it |
| Load size | Smaller loads usually accepted | A special trip usually needs a larger load |
| Containers | Stay on site between visits | Supplied for the job |
Many businesses use both: a route stop for batteries and everyday e-waste, and an on-call pickup when a refresh or move produces a larger load.
Any business that produces a steady trickle of batteries or electronics but not enough to justify a planned project. Offices, medical and dental clinics, retail stores, service shops and small warehouses are typical route customers.
If your volume is irregular, such as a one-time cleanout or a computer refresh, an on-call or bulk pickup usually fits better.
Pickups are for businesses and other organizations. We don't provide residential services. Households and home offices can recycle electronics through our sister company, Secure Recycle, at 3921 Pell Circle, Sacramento.
