What ISO 14001 Covers

ISO 14001:2015 is the international standard for environmental management systems. It asks an organization to identify the environmental aspects of what it does, meet its compliance obligations, set environmental objectives and improve its performance over time, looking at its activities from a life-cycle perspective. The 2015 revision added stronger requirements for leadership involvement, risk-based planning and control of outsourced processes. The standard does not set specific performance targets; it requires a working system that the certification body audits.

Where You See It in Our Work

The environmental risk in e-waste and battery recycling sits in what happens after pickup. Our ISO 14001 system covers material handling, transport, processing, downstream vendors and final disposition:

  • Sorting by stream: Batteries are separated by chemistry before packaging because each chemistry goes to a different recovery process. Lamps, ballasts and monitors each have their own stream.
  • Recovery before disposal: Working equipment is evaluated for reuse. Non-usable devices are dismantled so steel, copper, plastics and precious metals can be recovered. Shredded drives go to materials recovery, not to a landfill.
  • Downstream accountability: Material leaves our Sacramento facility only for approved downstream processors, and the path is recorded against the load's ticket.
  • Regulated waste: In California many electronics and all batteries are regulated by DTSC as hazardous or universal waste. Our handling is set up so that material you release is managed as the rules require.
Why It Matters to Your Organization

Your organization stays responsible for its waste until it reaches an authorized destination. Working with an ISO 14001 certified recycler gives you an audited environmental system on the other side of that handoff, and records you can use in sustainability or ESG reporting. Ask for our current certificate and for the recycling or destruction certificates that apply to your material.

Our Other Certifications

Our other certifications are ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety.
