Most construction e-waste is batteries. The rest comes from the electronics that run a modern jobsite and from the buildings you remodel or demolish. A typical load includes:
- Lithium-ion packs from drills, saws and other cordless tools, plus their chargers
- Lead acid batteries from lifts, loaders, generators and trucks
- Jobsite electronics: laser levels, radios, cameras and site-office computers
- Test and control equipment, power supplies, transformers, motors, switches and meters
- Fluorescent ballasts and lamps from lighting retrofits and teardowns
A damaged lithium pack in a job box can start a fire. Keep batteries in a closed, non-metal container away from heat, tape the terminals, and separate swollen or cracked packs. Lead acid batteries should stay upright and out of the rain. We can supply labeled containers and a short training for your crews. Our battery recycling page covers each chemistry.
Tenant improvements and teardowns turn up ballasts, lamps and exit signs that can't go in the roll-off. We handle ballasts and lamps along with the electronics, so one pickup can clear them together. Asbestos, lead paint and chemical waste need a licensed hazardous waste contractor.
We collect from yards and active sites on a recurring route or on call, log every load at our Sacramento facility, and send each material to an approved recycler under our ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems. You receive a certificate of recycling for each pickup. Request a quote with your yard and site locations.
Construction companies go through tool batteries, equipment batteries, jobsite electronics, test instruments and site-office computers, and remodels add old fixtures, lamps and ballasts to the pile. We set up containers at your yard or site, collect on a schedule, and give you the records your safety and compliance programs need.
Simplify your compliance and disposal process with bundled recycling services that handle both electronic devices and batteries in one streamlined solution.
Our scheduled, route-based pickups cover all major regions of California—ensuring efficient, on-time service no matter where you operate.
We provide clearly labeled, tamper-resistant containers to ensure safe and compliant collection of electronic waste and batteries at your location.
Modern Waste Solutions has served businesses and communities across California with dependable, environmentally responsible recycling solutions for over two decades.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!

We have answers.
No. Lead acid batteries from lifts, loaders, generators and trucks contain lead and sulfuric acid, and California requires them to go to a battery recycler. Store them upright and separate from scrap metal, and we collect them with your other batteries. The certificate of recycling shows where they went. Read more in our guide to lead acid and UPS battery recycling.
Yes. We collect from yards and active sites, on a recurring route or on call when a container fills. Tell us the site address, gate hours, the site contact and where the containers are staged. Each pickup is logged at our Sacramento facility, and you receive a certificate of recycling you can add to the project closeout file.
Keep batteries in a closed, non-metal container in a dry, shaded spot, away from fuel and heat. Tape the terminals of lithium-ion tool packs, and bag any swollen, cracked or leaking battery on its own. Lead acid batteries should stay upright on a pallet or in a tray. We can supply labeled containers and a short training for your crews so each site stores them the same way.
Laser levels, jobsite radios and cameras, tablets, site-office computers and printers, chargers, and test and control equipment such as meters, power supplies, transformers, switches and motors. Remodels add fluorescent ballasts, lamps and exit signs, which can go on the same pickup.
