Assorted electronic devices and batteries collected for recycling
One program for every location

When each office handles disposal on its own, the company ends up with several haulers, several paperwork formats and no reliable answer to where a given laptop went. A corporate program replaces that with one set of rules. Every site gets labeled containers sized to what it produces, a site contact trained on sorting and data-bearing devices, and a pickup cadence that fits its volume: a route stop for steady streams, on-call service for refreshes, moves and closures.

Our own crews run every pickup from our Sacramento facility. One team covers locations across California and Northern Nevada, so a branch opening or closing doesn't mean finding a new vendor.

What enterprise sites usually send
  • Laptops, desktops, monitors and docking stations from refresh cycles and lease returns
  • Servers, switches and storage from server rooms, handled through ITAD or server recycling
  • UPS systems and batteries, sorted by chemistry
  • Copiers, phones and loose drives that hold data
  • Fluorescent lamps and ballasts from facility upgrades
How data-bearing assets are handled

We agree which asset classes count as data-bearing before the first pickup. Those items travel in sealed, tracked containers and are tagged at our facility by type, make, model and serial number. Drives are wiped to NIST 800-88 when the device can be reused, or destroyed, either at our facility or with on-site shredding at your dock.

Records head office can use

Each load gets a ticket number tied to the site it came from. Certificates of recycling and destruction, erasure reports and receiving reports are grouped by location, so an IT asset manager can reconcile one site's release list while the sustainability team totals the whole company. Our operation is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and business clients include DISH Network, Johnson Controls, ACT Environmental and Bay Alarm.

What we recycle

Companies with offices, branches and warehouses in several cities produce the same waste at every site: laptops and desktops from refresh cycles, servers and network gear, UPS and device batteries, and fluorescent lamps. We run one program across all of them, with the same containers and rules at each location, asset-level tracking for data-bearing equipment, and records grouped by site.

A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.

Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.

Most compliance problems start at the site, before we arrive. Batteries, mercury lamps and many electronic devices are universal waste in California, so every container needs a label showing the material and the date accumulation began. We supply labels made for that and show each site contact how to date them.

From there, pickups run on a schedule that keeps material from sitting too long, battery chemistries stay separated, and each load is logged with its origin site. Our operation is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, which covers how we handle, process and document material once it is ours. Your own policies still decide retention periods and who can release equipment, so we build those into the program rules.

    Chevron down

We start with a site list and a rough idea of what each location produces. From there the rollout follows our six-step program, applied site by site:

    1. Confirm each address, its access details (dock, elevator, parking) and the materials it generates.
    2. Place containers sized to that site's volume and label them for the material inside.
    3. Train the site contact on sorting, battery chemistries and how to flag data-bearing devices.
    4. Set a pickup cadence per site: a route stop for steady volume, on-call for occasional loads.
    5. Log every load under a ticket number tied to the site it came from.
    6. Issue certificates and reports per site, plus a combined view for head office.

New locations can be added later using the same rules, which keeps the program consistent as the company grows or consolidates.

    Chevron down

A corporate recycling program puts every location a company runs under one agreement for electronics, batteries and data-bearing equipment. Each site gets the same labeled containers and the same rules for what goes where, and one team at Modern Waste Solutions handles collection at all of them.

The records come back as one set. Facilities, IT and sustainability staff can see what each site sent, when it was collected and how it was processed, without piecing together receipts from different haulers.

    Chevron down

The program is built from the services each location actually needs. A head office might need asset-level IT tracking while a warehouse only needs battery buckets and a gaylord box.

    ElementWhat it covers
Program designSite list, accepted materials, container plan and pickup cadence for each location.
Containers and labelsBins, carts, battery buckets and gaylords supplied as part of the service.
CollectionRecurring route stops, on-call pickups and planned bulk pickups for refreshes or moves.
IT assetsTagging by make, model and serial number, with ITAD review for reuse.
Data treatmentNIST 800-88 wiping or physical destruction, including on-site shredding.
ReportingCertificates of recycling or destruction and receiving reports, grouped by site.

The proposal lists which elements apply to which sites, so procurement and each site manager know what to expect.

    Chevron down

Before the first pickup we agree which asset classes count as data-bearing: laptops, desktops, servers, phones, copiers with drives, loose hard drives and SSDs. Those items are kept apart from general e-waste and travel in sealed, tracked containers.

At our facility, IT assets are tagged by type, make, model and serial number. Drives are then wiped to NIST 800-88 for reuse or physically destroyed, and the certificate lists each serial so your asset managers can match it against what each site released. Where a site wants drives destroyed before they leave the building, our mobile shredding unit can do it on site.

Our own crews run every pickup. We don't hand collections to subcontractors or parcel carriers.

    Chevron down

Without a program, each office tends to solve disposal on its own. Retired laptops pile up in a storage closet at one site, another site calls a local hauler, and nobody can say later where a given device went.

    • Several vendors with different paperwork, so records can't be combined for an audit.
    • Data-bearing devices leaving a site with no serial number recorded.
    • Batteries and lamps stored at branch offices with no labels or start dates.
    • Refresh projects that stall because nobody owns the pickup.

A single program fixes the ownership problem: one set of rules, one contact and one reporting format across the company.

    Chevron down

Ask questions that show how the provider will run your sites in practice:

    • Who drives the trucks? A provider that subcontracts pickups can't give the same chain of custody at every location.
    • Will one contact coordinate all sites, including new ones and closures?
    • Can they send a sample closeout report showing serial numbers by site?
    • Can the same visit take batteries and lamps as well as electronics?
    • Are their ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certificates current, and do they cover the facility that will process your material?

    Chevron down

Companies that retire equipment in volume, or in many places at once, get the most from a bulk program. Typical examples:

    • Organizations with regional offices, branches or warehouses across California and Northern Nevada.
    • IT teams running laptop and desktop refresh cycles or lease returns that need serial-level records.
    • Operations that replace UPS batteries, networking gear or servers on a schedule.
    • Sustainability and compliance teams that report recycling totals for the whole company.

Our business clients include DISH Network, Johnson Controls, ACT Environmental and Bay Alarm.
