North Highlands is an unincorporated community in north Sacramento County that grew around McClellan Air Force Base. Since the base closed in 2001, its hangars and buildings have been redeveloped as McClellan Park, a business park with warehouses, logistics operations, manufacturers, government tenants, and offices. The residential neighborhoods around Watt Avenue and Elkhorn Boulevard fill in the rest.
The mix of tenants means a mix of e-waste. A distribution warehouse retires handheld scanners and forklift batteries, a contractor clears a server closet, an office moves and leaves a pallet of monitors behind. North Highlands is also one of the closest communities to our recycling center, which makes frequent pickups practical.

Because the trip is short, many North Highlands customers use a regular route stop instead of waiting for a pile to build. We supply containers for electronics and separate ones for batteries, collect them on schedule, and record each load when it arrives. Reusable equipment is evaluated for resale. The rest is dismantled and sorted by material, and each stream goes to an approved recycler. Loads are processed under our ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications, and you receive certificates and reports.
Business park tenants often have contract or audit requirements for data disposal. We can wipe drives to NIST 800-88 with a per-serial record, shred them at our plant, or shred them at your site. No. California regulates discarded electronics and most batteries as universal waste, so they're not allowed in household or commercial trash. That includes the dumpster behind a warehouse. Industrial lead acid batteries must go to a recycler.
Yes. Our own recycling center at 3921 Pell Circle, Sacramento, is a short drive from North Highlands. Businesses can book pickups or deliver small loads there; see business e-waste drop-off in Sacramento for what to bring. We don't provide residential services. North Highlands households can recycle electronics through our sister company, Secure Recycle, at the same Sacramento address.

A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
