Manufacturing Roots and a Growing Logistics Footprint

Milpitas built its identity on semiconductor and hardware manufacturing, and that legacy continues alongside a growing footprint of warehouses and logistics operations drawn to the city by its proximity to major highways and the wider Bay Area. The result is a mix of manufacturing-line electronics and warehouse equipment that turns over on a different schedule than a typical downtown office, often tied to production runs or seasonal shipping volume rather than a calendar quarter. Business parks along the city's major corridors now house manufacturers, distribution operators, and standard office tenants side by side, each generating a different kind of retired electronics.

Who uses our e-waste recycling in Milpitas
  • Hardware and semiconductor manufacturers — retired production-line electronics, test equipment, and office IT from manufacturing facilities as product lines change over.
  • Warehouse and logistics operators — handheld scanners, terminals, and networking equipment retired during facility upgrades or system-wide technology changes, frequently in large batches all at once.
  • Office tenants in mixed-use business parks — standard IT refreshes for companies sharing space with manufacturing and logistics operations in the same complex, often on a very different schedule than their industrial neighbors.
What e-waste items qualify for pickup from Milpitas?

Desktops, laptops, warehouse scanners and terminals, networking equipment, monitors, printers, phones, all battery chemistries including warehouse equipment batteries, and hard drives with certified, on-site destruction. We also take retired manufacturing-line test and control electronics that don't fit a standard office recycling pickup, along with the pallets of smaller components that often accompany a line changeover.

Office tenants in the same business parks add copiers, phone systems, TVs and displays, modems and routers, UPS backups and audio and video gear. All of it qualifies, and computer recycling for Milpitas offices includes wiping or destroying every drive first.

How is e-waste recycled for Milpitas manufacturers and warehouses?

A line changeover or a scanner fleet swap runs through our six steps:

  1. Containers sized for pallets of components or bins of handhelds.
  2. Training for floor staff on separating batteries and data-bearing devices.
  3. Pickup by our own crew, forklift-assisted if the dock needs it.
  4. Tracking under a ticket number, with serial numbers when your scope includes them.
  5. Processing at our Sacramento facility, reuse first.
  6. Certificates and reports for your compliance file.

Milpitas pickups run under our ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process, with documented chain-of-custody records suited to manufacturing and logistics compliance requirements alike, from production floor to loading dock.

Can e-waste go in the trash in Milpitas?

No. Discarded electronics and batteries are universal waste under California rules, so they can't go into a dumpster or compactor at a warehouse or plant. Warehouse equipment batteries are also a fire hazard in mixed trash. Businesses can book a pickup. Modern Waste Solutions works only with businesses and public agencies. Milpitas residents can use a South Bay collection site from CalRecycle's list or our sister company, Secure Recycle, at 3921 Pell Circle in Sacramento.

A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.

Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
