South Lake Tahoe runs on an entirely different calendar than the rest of the towns on our route. Ski season packs resort hotels and casinos with guests and pushes lift-ticket scanners, key-card systems, and point-of-sale terminals hard through the winter; summer tourism brings a second, almost-as-busy peak built around lake recreation and outdoor gear rentals; and the shoulder seasons in between are when properties finally have the downtime to pull old equipment out of service. That cycle means resort hotels, casinos, and vacation rental operators go through key-card infrastructure, point-of-sale terminals, back-of-house computers, and property-wide UPS units backing up everything from reservation systems to lift-ticket scanners — equipment most valley businesses never touch. Vacation rental management companies add their own layer, replacing routers, streaming devices, and smart locks across dozens of units at once. At 6,200 feet and an hour past the nearest foothill town, it's also a market a lot of recyclers simply skip rather than build a route around.
- Resort and casino properties — hospitality operators retiring point-of-sale systems, key-card infrastructure, reservation-system UPS units, and back-office electronics between seasons.
- Vacation rental and property management companies — businesses managing dozens of units' worth of TVs, routers, smart locks, and small electronics.
- Mountain small businesses — ski shops, restaurants, and outfitters replacing aging computers and phones during the off-season lull.
Desktops, laptops, monitors, point-of-sale systems, key-card and lock systems, UPS units, networking equipment, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives with certified destruction, scheduled around Tahoe's shoulder seasons when properties actually have downtime. Vacation rental managers can add TVs, routers and streaming devices from their units, and back-office computer recycling from resorts and shops rides on the same visit.
A mountain route puts more weight on planning, so the first steps of our program happen well before the truck climbs the hill. We size containers to hold a season's worth of retired gear and train staff to keep batteries and data-bearing devices separate. The pickup is run by our own crew during your slow season. Loads are then tracked, processed at our Sacramento facility, and documented with certificates and a report.
No. South Lake Tahoe is in California, and the state's universal waste rules keep most electronics and batteries out of commercial and household trash. For a casino or resort, retired key-card and POS systems may also hold guest data.
We don't offer residential service ourselves. Household electronics go to Secure Recycle, our sister company for consumers, which operates from our Sacramento address at 3921 Pell Circle, though an El Dorado County site listed by CalRecycle is far more practical from the lake.
South Lake Tahoe pickups follow the same ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process as the rest of our region, with full chain-of-custody tracking and a certificate of recycling or destruction.
Request a quote and tell us your property's slow season — whether that's the fall shoulder or the spring melt — and we'll build the pickup around it. We also serve Cameron Park and Placerville on the way up the hill.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!
