Placerville sits far enough into the El Dorado foothills that a lot of e-waste recyclers treat it as an afterthought — a special trip with a minimum-volume requirement. We don't, because Placerville is already on our regular Highway 50 pickup route through the greater Sacramento region.
- Historic downtown businesses: retail and tourism-adjacent shops with seasonal equipment turnover (POS systems, office PCs) tied to Placerville's tourist season.
- Local offices and services: insurance, legal, and county-adjacent service offices retiring aging computers and printers.
- El Dorado County residents: we don't provide residential services, but our sister company takes household electronics. Details are below.
Desktops, laptops, point-of-sale systems, monitors, printers, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives with certified destruction. It's the same list we recycle everywhere else in the region, with no foothill exceptions. For a downtown shop, that often means an old register PC, a receipt printer and a few years of dead batteries in one pickup.
Being on the Highway 50 route changes the logistics, not the program. You still get labeled containers and a short training for staff, and our own crew does the pickup on its regular run. Back in Sacramento the load is logged under a ticket number, processed with drives handled first, and documented in a report and certificate.
That depends on whose PC it is.
- Business computers: add them to a route pickup. Drives are wiped or shredded before anything is reused or recycled.
- Household computers and laptops: these go to Secure Recycle, our sister company for consumers, at our Sacramento address, 3921 Pell Circle. It's a trip from the foothills, so if you won't be in Sacramento soon, CalRecycle lists collection sites in El Dorado County.
Whichever applies, the trash isn't an option. California's universal waste rules keep computers, monitors and batteries out of the garbage.
Placerville pickups follow the same ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process as every other stop on our route, with full chain-of-custody tracking and a certificate of recycling or destruction.
Request a quote and we'll fold your pickup into our next Highway 50 corridor run instead of scheduling a special trip. We also serve Sacramento, Rocklin, and Carmichael on the same route.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!
