Reno carries its own identity, distinct from the warehouse belt in neighboring Sparks. Downtown Reno is anchored by casino resorts running large-scale point-of-sale, reservation, and back-office systems that turn over constantly, alongside a much larger year-round population and business base than a satellite town. The University of Nevada, Reno adds a steady stream of campus IT retirements. And to the east, the corridor toward the Tesla Gigafactory and the region's expanding roster of data centers has turned Reno into one of the fastest-growing tech and manufacturing markets in the Mountain West — with server racks and UPS systems reaching end of life at a scale most local haulers have never had to handle. Where Sparks is defined almost entirely by warehousing, Reno's mix of hospitality, higher education, and enterprise tech infrastructure calls for a broader range of recycling expertise under one roof.
- Casino resorts and hospitality companies — point-of-sale terminals, reservation systems, and back-office IT retired during property upgrades.
- Data centers and manufacturing facilities — server racks, networking gear, and UPS systems decommissioned as capacity is refreshed or expanded.
- University of Nevada, Reno departments — campus workstations and lab equipment requiring documented data destruction.
Desktops, laptops, server and networking hardware, UPS and battery-backup systems, casino point-of-sale terminals, monitors, printers, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives with certified destruction and full chain-of-custody documentation. For data center clients, that includes full rack decommissioning and asset-tagged reporting suitable for enterprise IT asset management records.
Reno loads travel to our Sacramento facility with our own crew, so the chain of custody doesn't change hands at the state line. The six steps start on site with containers and staff training, continue with the pickup and tracking under a ticket number, and finish in Sacramento, where drives are wiped or shredded during processing and the job is closed with certificates and reports. For a data center, the tracking step is where every rack component gets its asset tag.
Our recycling center is in Sacramento. Reno businesses don't need to haul equipment over the pass, because pickups come to them. Modern Waste Solutions works only with businesses and public agencies. Our sister company, Secure Recycle, takes household electronics at our Sacramento address, 3921 Pell Circle, which helps if you're driving there anyway. Otherwise, ask the City of Reno or your waste hauler about local household options.
They shouldn't. Computers, TVs, monitors and batteries contain lead, mercury, cadmium and other hazardous materials that don't belong in a landfill, and a casino or university drive that goes out with the trash also takes its data with it. Nevada's disposal rules aren't the same as California's, so check with your local waste authority on what applies to household items.
Reno pickups follow the same ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process we run across California, with documentation built for cross-state compliance and a certificate of recycling or destruction for every load.
Request a quote and tell us the scale of the job — from a single office cleanout to a full data center decommission, we scope it before we schedule it, and we can bring in additional crew for larger casino-property or data-center jobs. We also serve nearby Sparks, and often run both cities on the same regional route.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!
