Pittsburg earned its name honestly — a century of steel milling and, later, power-plant operations built a genuinely industrial economy along its stretch of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. That legacy still shapes the city: warehouses, maintenance shops, and power-generation contractors here handle equipment at a scale and ruggedness that a typical suburban office never sees, and they need a recycling partner who's used to pallets and UPS cabinets, not just desktop towers. Long-established working-class neighborhoods sit right alongside the industrial waterfront, and our routes here often cover a warehouse pickup and a shop-floor decommissioning job in the same afternoon.
- Power and utility contractors: retired UPS units, control-room electronics, and battery backup systems from decommissioned or upgraded equipment.
- Warehouse and logistics operators: handheld scanners, rugged tablets, and networking gear replaced during fleet or system upgrades.
UPS units and backup battery systems, industrial control electronics, desktops, laptops, monitors, networking equipment, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives, collected and destroyed with documentation suited to industrial equipment logs. We also handle retired two-way radios, rugged handheld scanners, and the older PLCs and control panels that get swapped out during plant modernization projects. Computer recycling for the site office can go on the same truck.
On an industrial job, the safety side of our six-step program carries as much weight as the paperwork.
- We supply containers suited to heavy material, such as battery tubs, drums and pallet-ready gaylords.
- Field Service Managers train your crew to separate battery chemistries and spot damaged cells.
- Our own crew runs the pickup and follows your site's safety rules while on it.
- Loads are logged by weight, material type and date.
- At our Sacramento facility the material is triaged and processed, with reuse ahead of recycling.
- You receive certificates and a report for the equipment log.
It can't. Circuit boards, monitors, lead-acid and lithium batteries and most other discarded electronics are regulated in California, largely under the DTSC universal waste rules, and a contractor who bins them stays responsible for where they end up. Pittsburg residents follow the same rule at home. Modern Waste Solutions works only with businesses and public agencies, so household electronics go to our sister company, Secure Recycle, at 3921 Pell Circle in Sacramento. CalRecycle lists closer sites in Contra Costa County.
Pittsburg jobs run under our ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process, with the tracked chain-of-custody that power and utility contractors need for their own compliance records. Our crews are as comfortable following facility safety protocols on an active industrial site as they are handling a straightforward small-office pickup.
Request a quote — for larger industrial jobs, we'll coordinate directly with your facilities or maintenance team on scheduling and equipment logs, and we can work around shift changes so pickup doesn't interfere with operations. We also serve nearby Antioch, Martinez, and Concord.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!
