A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Atwater is smaller and quieter than its Merced County neighbors, but its history as the home of Castle Air Force Base left behind something unusual: a converted airfield now operating as Castle Airport, home to aviation maintenance, warehousing, and light-industrial tenants alongside an aviation museum. That mix sits next to the agricultural operations that define most of the rest of the town, giving Atwater two distinct customer bases most single-focus recyclers overlook. The result is a town where an aviation maintenance shop's shop-floor computers and a family farm office's aging desktop might both need pickup in the same week, and both deserve the same documented, certified process.
- Castle Airport business park tenants — office and light-industrial electronics retired from aviation, maintenance, and warehousing operations at the former airbase.
- Agricultural businesses and packing operations — scale-house terminals and inventory systems tied to harvest schedules.
- Local small businesses — routine office electronics and battery recycling for independent Atwater businesses along Bellevue Road and downtown.
Desktops, laptops, warehouse and inventory terminals, monitors, printers, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives with certified destruction and a documented chain of custody. We also take networking equipment, point-of-sale systems, and the smaller electronics — cordless tools, handheld radios, backup batteries — that build up in aviation maintenance and light-industrial shops around Castle Airport.
Add to that the office items every business eventually retires: copiers, phone systems, TVs and monitors, modems and routers, UPS backup units, and audio and video equipment. For a farm office, that might be one desktop and a dead battery backup. For a maintenance shop at Castle Airport, it might be a pallet.
Atwater stops usually ride along with a Merced or Modesto run, but the process doesn't change with the route. We provide storage containers and labels and train the people who fill them. Our crew handles the pickup, then the load is tracked under a ticket number and processed at our Sacramento facility, where data-bearing devices are wiped or destroyed and reusable equipment is separated from material bound for recycling. The job closes with a certificate and report.
Atwater pickups follow our ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process, with a certificate of recycling or destruction issued for every load, regardless of whether the equipment came from a business park tenant, a family-run ag operation, or a downtown storefront.
No. Electronics and batteries are universal waste in California, and state rules don't allow them in trash bins or dumpsters, whether the bin sits behind a Bellevue Road storefront or at a hangar. Businesses should hold retired equipment for a documented pickup. Atwater households aren't part of our service, since we work with businesses. Our sister company, Secure Recycle, handles consumer electronics at the same Sacramento location, 3921 Pell Circle, and CalRecycle lists collection sites closer to Atwater.
Computer recycling for Atwater businesses ends at our facility in Sacramento, and the equipment gets there on our own truck. Old computers and laptops are the items most likely to hold data, so they're logged on arrival and their drives are wiped or destroyed before anything is resold or recycled. For a business that needs proof of that, secure data destruction adds a certificate of destruction to the paperwork.
Request a quote and let us know your pickup location — Castle Airport, downtown, or a farm office — and we'll route accordingly, whether that's a single small pickup or a scheduled recurring service. We also serve nearby Merced and Modesto, and often combine Atwater stops with one of those routes to keep costs down for smaller businesses.
No obligation. We respond same business day.

This was our first time working with MWS and they were amazing! Quick response time, efficient, and friendly. Ivan was the team member who was on site for the pickup, and he was great. He worked quickly, is very knowledgeable, and is so kind. It was so easy working with him. We are looking forward to using MWS for our E-waste and Universal waste needs in the future. - Sacramento City College Sustainability

Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
