San Francisco's downtown and financial district are dense with law firms, investment and wealth-management offices, and professional-services tenants who generate a very different kind of e-waste than a typical suburban office: high volumes of client files, confidential records, and hard drives that can't simply be hauled to a recycler and hoped for the best. On-site destruction, not just disposal, is often the whole point of the call, and the density of high-rise tenants means a single building can generate more retired drives in a month than a suburban office park generates in a year.
- Law firms and financial offices — client-file hard drives and workstations that require witnessed, on-site shredding before they ever leave the building.
- High-rise office tenants — bulk decommissions during lease turnovers, mergers, or floor consolidations in downtown towers.
- Professional-services firms — smaller, recurring pickups of drives and devices retired between major office moves or annual equipment refreshes.
Desktops, laptops, monitors, networking equipment, printers, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives, with on-site shredding available at the client's location for firms that need to witness destruction directly. Every job comes with full chain-of-custody documentation and a certificate of destruction, and at our top hard drive tier that certificate lists the make, model, method and serial number of each drive. Copiers deserve a place on the list because many hold scanned documents on an internal drive.
For a downtown firm, our six steps usually run like this:
- We place a controlled container for drives and devices, and brief the office manager on what belongs in it.
- Our own crew arrives for the pickup, or for on-site shredding your staff can watch.
- Drives and devices are recorded against your release list, by serial number when your scope includes it.
- Remaining equipment is processed at our Sacramento facility, with reuse considered only after the data question is settled.
- Certificates and a report go into our client portal for the compliance file.
Neither can. California's universal waste rules keep most electronics and batteries out of household and commercial trash, and for a law or finance office the drive inside a discarded laptop is its own liability. Pickups are for businesses; we don't provide residential services. San Francisco households can recycle electronics through our sister company, Secure Recycle, at the same Sacramento address, 3921 Pell Circle, or find a collection site closer to home on CalRecycle's list.
Every San Francisco pickup runs under our ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process, giving downtown firms the audit trail their compliance, legal, and risk teams require, whether the load is a single filing cabinet's worth of drives or a full-floor decommission.
Request a quote and ask about on-site shredding if your firm needs to witness drive destruction in person before it leaves your building. We also serve nearby Daly City and San Mateo.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!
