Richmond has been one of the Bay Area's genuine industrial anchors for over a century, home to a major Chevron refinery, an active port, and the shipping, warehousing, and maintenance businesses that support both. That history shapes what we pick up here: control-room electronics, rugged industrial equipment, and UPS systems from operations that run around the clock, alongside the office electronics of the businesses built up around them.
- Refinery and industrial contractors: control-room electronics, rugged handheld devices, and battery backup systems retired during equipment upgrades.
- Port and shipping operators: office and logistics electronics, from dispatch systems to networking equipment, replaced on operational schedules.
- Waterfront small businesses: everyday small-office e-waste from shops and offices along Richmond's commercial strips.
UPS units and industrial battery systems, control-room and rugged electronics, desktops, laptops, monitors, networking gear, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives destroyed with documentation suited to industrial compliance records. We also handle retired two-way radios and security and surveillance systems, and computer recycling for a contractor's or port operator's offices goes on the same pickup.
The order is the same for a refinery contractor and a corner shop; only the scale changes.
- Before pickup: we supply battery tubs, drums or carts and train your people to keep chemistries apart and set damaged cells aside.
- Pickup: our own crew collects the load, including site-access and safety orientation where your facility requires it.
- After pickup: each load is logged by weight and date, processed at our Sacramento facility, and documented in certificates and a report for your environmental program.
No. In California, most discarded electronics and batteries are universal waste, and the business that generates them stays responsible until they reach an authorized recycler. Tossing a UPS battery in a waterfront dumpster leaves that responsibility with you, plus a fire risk if the cell is damaged.
Richmond households are covered by the same rule. Household electronics go to Secure Recycle, our sister company for consumers, which operates from our Sacramento address at 3921 Pell Circle. We don't offer residential service ourselves, and CalRecycle lists closer West Contra Costa sites.
Richmond pickups run under our ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process, giving refinery and port contractors the audit-ready paperwork their own safety and environmental programs require. Small businesses get the same certified handling, without the added site-access paperwork an industrial job usually involves.
Request a quote. For refinery-adjacent or port-scale jobs, we'll coordinate scheduling and access with your operations or facilities team directly, including safety-orientation requirements for site access where needed. Small shop owners can request a simple pickup too. Minimums depend on the route, and a small load can often join a scheduled stop. We also serve nearby El Cerrito and Hercules.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!
