Goleta has a longstanding cluster of technology, aerospace-adjacent, and research employers connected to UC Santa Barbara — companies whose retired equipment often includes test instruments, lab computers, and R&D hardware alongside standard office gear.
- Tech and research companies — lab workstations, test equipment, and R&D hardware retired as projects wind down or refresh.
- Aerospace and precision-equipment adjacent firms — specialized electronics that need careful, documented decommissioning.
- Standard offices — the usual desktops, laptops, and networking equipment turnover alongside more specialized loads.
Desktops, laptops, lab and test equipment, networking gear, monitors, printers, phones, all battery chemistries, and hard drives with certified destruction — including equipment types that need extra care in handling and disposition.
The office side of a Goleta company adds copiers and printers, phone systems, TVs and conference displays, modems and routers, UPS backups and battery-embedded devices. Test equipment with unusual batteries or components should be listed on the quote so we can plan the packaging.
We follow six steps from your lab to our Sacramento facility:
- Containers and labels that keep batteries, data-bearing devices and general electronics apart.
- Training for the staff who decommission equipment.
- Pickup by our own crew; we don't hand Central Coast jobs to a carrier.
- Tracking by ticket number and weight, plus serial numbers for R&D assets when the scope calls for it.
- Processing with drives wiped or destroyed first, then reuse, then recycling.
- Certificates and reports for your compliance records.
Goleta pickups run under our ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001-certified process, with the documented chain-of-custody research and technical organizations expect for sensitive equipment.
For a business, add the TVs to a pickup. Conference-room screens, lobby displays and old tube TVs from a storage room all go to our TV and monitor recycling stream, where leaded CRT glass and the backlight lamps in older flat panels are handled separately.
Households aren't part of our service, since we work with businesses and institutions. Our sister company, Secure Recycle, takes consumer electronics at our Sacramento address, 3921 Pell Circle, which is a long way from the Central Coast, so most Goleta residents will find a closer option through CalRecycle's list of collection sites. The one option that isn't legal is the trash: TVs are universal waste in California and can't go in a garbage cart or a bulky-item pile headed for landfill.
No, for the same reason, and lab equipment has a second problem: instruments and workstations can hold research data. Set them aside for a documented pickup and, where needed, secure data destruction.
Request a quote and let us know if your load includes lab, test, or R&D equipment so we can plan the right handling in advance.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
Aaron and Vincent were awesome, excellent customer service!
