Most of what we collect in Butte County comes from three places. CSU Chico's departments and administrative offices retire computer labs, classroom AV and office electronics on an academic-year cycle, with the heaviest volume between commencement and the fall semester. Enloe Medical Center, the county's regional hospital, and the clinics around it retire IT and monitoring equipment that carries patient data. Outside the city limits, almond growers and processors retire office computers, scale-house electronics and the equipment tied to harvest record-keeping.
Those three streams look nothing alike, so the county gets the same certified process applied three different ways.
Chico has its own page with the detail. Our North Valley route also reaches Oroville and Magalia, and it links Butte County with Live Oak and Yuba City to the south and Redding to the north, so a pickup here can usually ride along with stops already scheduled nearby.
Desktops, laptops, servers, monitors and TVs, printers and copiers, phone systems, networking equipment, UPS backups, classroom and lab AV gear, all battery chemistries, and hard drives. Diagnostic and monitoring equipment from clinics qualifies too; tell us what it is when you book so we can plan the handling. The services involved:
- Electronic waste recycling for general equipment.
- Secure data destruction for drives from hospital, clinic and university systems, with a certificate of destruction.
- Battery recycling for loose and equipment batteries, sorted by chemistry.
Farm offices and campus departments follow the same six steps. We provide containers and train the people who use them, and our own crew runs the pickup on the North Valley route. The load is then tracked under a ticket number, processed at our Sacramento facility with drives handled first, and closed with certificates and reports under our ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certifications.
Timing is usually the main question. University loads often wait for a semester break, and ag offices tend to clear equipment after harvest. Tell us which applies when you request a quote.
We don't provide residential services; pickups are for businesses, campuses, clinics and agencies. Butte County households can recycle electronics through our sister company, Secure Recycle, at the same Sacramento address, 3921 Pell Circle, or use a closer site on CalRecycle's list of collection locations. The trash isn't an option: discarded electronics and batteries are universal waste under California rules.
Is there a minimum pickup size in Butte County?
Minimums depend on the route and the material. A stop added to a scheduled North Valley run can usually be smaller than a dedicated trip, so a farm office with a few computers is worth asking about.
Can a hospital or campus get a recurring schedule?
Yes. We offer recurring route-based pickups as well as on-call pickups, and larger institutions can use both: a regular schedule for routine turnover and an extra run for a lab or department refresh.
Request a quote with your location, what you're retiring and roughly how much, and we'll fit the pickup into the next North Valley run.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
