Wilton is a rural, unincorporated community in the southeast corner of Sacramento County, east of Elk Grove and along the Cosumnes River. It's a place of ranchettes, horse and cattle properties, orchards and small vineyards, and county roads rather than shopping centers. Many residents run agricultural or trade businesses from their property.
E-waste in Wilton looks different from e-waste in town. Tractor, truck, and ATV batteries, well pump and irrigation controllers, backup batteries for gates and solar systems, and old farm-office computers tend to collect in barns and shops for years, because there's no convenient place nearby to take them.
For farms, ranches, and rural businesses we collect:
- lead acid batteries from tractors, trucks, ATVs, and equipment
- solar and off-grid battery banks and backup units
- irrigation, well-pump, and gate controllers
- cordless tool batteries and chargers
- farm-office computers, printers, and phones
- security cameras and trail or barn camera systems
- hard drives from business computers
Batteries come first on a rural pickup, so we'll ask what you have and in what condition. We can supply battery containers and show you how to store damaged or leaking batteries safely until collection. Once a load reaches our Sacramento facility, it's logged, batteries are sorted by chemistry, and electronics are tested for reuse or dismantled for their metals, plastics, and circuit boards. Everything goes to approved recyclers under our ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 systems, and a certificate of recycling is available.
The farm-office computer holds bank records, payroll, and tax files. Before it's recycled, we destroy the drive or wipe it to NIST 800-88 and can issue a certificate of destruction. More on hard drive destruction.
No. California's universal waste rules apply in rural areas just as they do in cities. Electronics and most batteries can't go in household or commercial trash, and they shouldn't be buried, burned, or left in a field, where a lead acid battery can leak lead and acid into the soil. The battery recycling page explains how each type is handled.
Our recycling center is in north Sacramento at 3921 Pell Circle. Wilton businesses are served by pickup, or can deliver a load through our business e-waste drop-off in Sacramento. Wilton households aren't part of our service, since we work with businesses and institutions. Our sister company, Secure Recycle, handles consumer electronics at the same address.
Request a quote and describe what you have, including battery types and quantities. We also serve nearby Elk Grove, Galt, and Rancho Cordova, and the rest of Sacramento County.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
