Vineyard is an unincorporated area in southeast Sacramento County, between Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova. Not long ago most of it was open land and farms. Since then, subdivision after subdivision has gone up along Vineyard Road, Calvine Road, and the streets between them, and new shopping centers have followed.
The businesses here reflect that growth: builders and trades contractors working on the next phase of homes, real estate and mortgage offices, new retail and restaurants, and a large number of home-based businesses. Moving into a new house or office is also when people clear out old computers, so a lot of e-waste in Vineyard turns up during a move.
Business electronics and batteries such as:
- laptops, desktops, monitors, and printers from small offices
- construction-site electronics: tool batteries, chargers, jobsite radios, and laser levels
- phones, routers, and smart-home or security devices removed during a move
- registers and card terminals from new storefronts
- UPS backups and batteries of any chemistry
- hard drives and USB storage for destruction
Residents and home-based businesses: we don't pick up from homes. See below for where household electronics can go.
Contractors usually want a battery container on the jobsite or in the yard. Offices usually want a pickup when a pile is ready. Either way, we collect the load, log it at our Sacramento facility, and pull out data-bearing devices for destruction. Reusable equipment is evaluated for resale; the rest is dismantled, and the metals, plastics, glass, circuit boards, and batteries go to approved recyclers. Our processes are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, and a certificate of recycling is available for every load.
A small-office laptop usually holds the same things as a corporate one: client files, tax records, saved passwords. We shred drives or wipe them to NIST 800-88, and you get a certificate of destruction. The hard drive destruction page explains the two methods.
No. California doesn't allow electronics or most batteries in household or commercial trash, and that includes the dumpsters on a construction site. They're regulated as universal waste because of the lead, mercury, and lithium inside. Crushed lithium batteries are also a common cause of fires in garbage trucks.
Our recycling center is at 3921 Pell Circle in north Sacramento. Businesses can book a pickup or deliver small loads through our business e-waste drop-off. Modern Waste Solutions works only with businesses, so Vineyard residents and home offices can take household electronics to our sister company, Secure Recycle, at the same address.

Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
