Florin is an unincorporated community in south Sacramento County. Before World War II it was a farming town, and many of its growers were Japanese American families raising strawberries and grapes. Today it is mostly suburban, and its business life is concentrated along Florin Road: auto repair and parts shops, restaurants, family-run markets, clinics, tax preparers, and small offices.
Those businesses don't produce truckloads of e-waste, but they do produce it constantly. A shop's diagnostic laptop dies, a clinic upgrades its front-desk computers, a market replaces its scale and register. Electronics recycling in Florin works best as an occasional pickup that fits around that pace.
Business electronics and batteries, including:
- desktop computers, laptops, and the monitors and printers that go with them
- registers, card terminals, and retail scales
- automotive diagnostic tools, chargers, and car and equipment batteries
- phones, routers, modems, and security camera systems
- UPS backups and battery packs of every chemistry
- hard drives and other media from any of the above
We don't provide residential services. Florin households can recycle electronics through our sister company, Secure Recycle, at the same Sacramento address, 3921 Pell Circle.
We keep it simple for a small business. We can leave a container for electronics and a separate one for batteries, then collect them on a route stop or when you call. Each load is logged when it reaches our facility in north Sacramento. Equipment that still works is evaluated for reuse; the rest is dismantled, and the metals, plastics, circuit boards, and batteries go to approved recyclers. You get a certificate of recycling, and a certificate of destruction for any drives.
Clinics, tax offices, and auto shops all store personal information: medical details, Social Security numbers, customer addresses, card data. Before a Florin business recycles a computer, the drive should be destroyed or wiped to a recognized standard. We do both and document it. See hard drive destruction for how it works.
No. California law bars most electronics and batteries from the trash, for homes and businesses alike, because they contain lead, mercury, cadmium, and lithium. Sacramento County's garbage service is no exception. Batteries crushed in a garbage truck also start fires.
Our own recycling center is at 3921 Pell Circle in north Sacramento, across town from Florin. Florin businesses can book a pickup or deliver small loads there; the business drop-off page covers what to bring and how to prepare devices that hold data. Florin residents can take household electronics to Secure Recycle, which operates from the same address.

No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
