Union City sits in southern Alameda County between Hayward and Fremont. It was incorporated in 1959 when the communities of Alvarado and Decoto joined, and Alvarado's industrial history carried forward: the west side of the city, along Interstate 880 and Whipple Road, is lined with warehouses, distribution centers, and electronics and equipment suppliers. Residential neighborhoods and the Union City BART station fill in the rest of the city.
That industrial base means larger and more varied e-waste than a typical suburb. Warehouses retire handheld scanners, label printers, and forklift batteries. Manufacturers replace test equipment and control panels. Tech suppliers turn over servers and returned inventory.
- warehouse and logistics electronics, including scanners, rugged tablets, and printers
- forklift and pallet-jack batteries, UPS systems, and battery backups
- servers, switches, storage, and telecom equipment
- test and measurement instruments, control panels, and power supplies
- returned, defective, or obsolete electronic inventory
- office computers, monitors, and phones
- hard drives and media for certified destruction
For industrial sites we usually start with a walkthrough to size containers and plan palletized pickups. Loads are counted at your dock, transported under chain of custody, and logged at our Sacramento facility. Equipment with resale value is identified through our ITAD services, which can offset the cost of the job. The rest is dismantled, and metals, plastics, circuit boards, and battery chemistries are shipped to approved recyclers. Our operation is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, and reports and certificates close out each job.
Offices and tech suppliers in Union City often need proof of data destruction for customers or auditors. We provide NIST 800-88 wiping with a record for each serial number, shredding at our facility, or on-site hard drive shredding at your dock. You receive a certificate of destruction either way.
No. California regulates discarded electronics and most batteries as universal waste, and they can't go into household or commercial trash. For a warehouse, that includes the compactor and the roll-off. Industrial batteries have their own handling rules, and a recycling certificate is the easiest proof you followed them.
Our recycling center is in Sacramento, at 3921 Pell Circle. Union City businesses are served by pickup, so there's no need to bring anything to us. A business that prefers to deliver a load can use our business drop-off. Household electronics go to Secure Recycle, our sister company for consumers, at the same address; we don't offer residential service ourselves. CalRecycle lists collection sites nearer to the East Bay.
Request a quote with your address, dock access details, and a rough inventory. We also serve nearby Fremont, Hayward, and Newark, and cities throughout Alameda County.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
