Diamond Springs is an unincorporated town in El Dorado County, strung along Highway 49 a few miles south of Placerville. It grew out of a Gold Rush mining camp, and its business base today is small and practical: building and landscape contractors, auto and equipment repair, retail along the highway, and professionals working from home. The Missouri Flat Road shopping area sits between here and Placerville.
The nearest large recycling facilities are down in the Sacramento Valley, so a lot of old equipment in Diamond Springs sits in a garage or shop corner until someone deals with it. Batteries are the part that shouldn't wait. We make pickups here so local businesses don't have to haul e-waste down Highway 50 themselves.
Nearly any business electronics or batteries. From Diamond Springs we most often collect:
- lead acid batteries from equipment, vehicles, and backup systems
- lithium-ion packs from cordless tools, mowers, and trimmers
- office computers, laptops, printers, and monitors
- security cameras, DVRs, routers, and phone systems
- shop electronics such as diagnostic tools and chargers
- hard drives from retired computers
The battery recycling page lists every chemistry we take.
We start by setting you up to store things safely: containers for electronics, separate containers for batteries, and a short walkthrough on taping terminals and isolating damaged packs. When you're ready, we collect the containers and log each load into our tracking system at our Sacramento facility. Reusable equipment is tested and remarketed; the rest is dismantled, with circuit boards, metals, plastics, and battery chemistries sent to approved recyclers. You receive a certificate of recycling for your files.
An office computer in a small El Dorado County business may have years of invoices, customer records, and tax files on it. We wipe drives to NIST 800-88 or shred them, then issue a certificate of destruction. If you'd rather see the drives destroyed before they leave, ask about on-site hard drive shredding.
No. Under California's universal waste rules, discarded electronics and most batteries can't go into household or commercial trash anywhere in the state, including unincorporated El Dorado County. Lead acid batteries in particular have to go to a recycler. Keeping a certificate of recycling is the simplest way to show you disposed of them properly.
Our recycling center is in Sacramento, at 3921 Pell Circle. Businesses in Diamond Springs are served by pickup, or can deliver a load through our business drop-off. If you're a resident heading into Sacramento anyway, our sister company, Secure Recycle, takes household electronics at the same address. We don't collect from homes or provide residential services.
Get a quote and let us know what you've accumulated, especially any batteries. We also serve nearby Placerville, Cameron Park, and Pleasant Valley, and the rest of El Dorado County.
No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
