Bay Point is an unincorporated community in Contra Costa County, known as West Pittsburg until residents renamed it in the 1990s. It has no city hall of its own, so county rules apply, and most of its commerce runs along Willow Pass Road and the Highway 4 corridor near the Pittsburg/Bay Point BART station. The businesses here are mostly small: retail and food service in the shopping centers, auto shops, trades contractors, and a lot of people running a business out of a spare bedroom.
For e-waste in Bay Point, that means small, irregular loads. A contractor has a crate of dead drill batteries and an old laptop, a store replaces its register, a property manager clears electronics a tenant left behind. We plan pickups for that kind of volume.
Business electronics of almost any kind. Common Bay Point pickups include:
- Cordless tool batteries, lead acid batteries from equipment, and UPS units
- Registers, card readers, receipt printers, and small office computers
- Monitors, printers, phones, routers, and security camera recorders
- Laptops and desktops from small offices
- Hard drives that need to be destroyed with a certificate
We don't provide residential services, so households and home-based businesses in Bay Point are served by our sister company, Secure Recycle. More on that below.
The process starts before pickup day. We provide containers for your electronics and separate ones for batteries, with guidance on how to store each safely. When a container fills, we collect it, either on a regular route stop or when you call. Every load is recorded in our database at the Sacramento facility, sorted into items that can be reused and items that will be broken down for materials, and processed under our ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 management systems. Reports and a certificate of recycling follow.
An old computer from a small business often holds payroll files, customer lists, or saved passwords. Before it's recycled, the drive is wiped to NIST 800-88 or physically shredded, depending on what you choose, and you receive a certificate of destruction listing what was destroyed. Our hard drive destruction page explains the choices.
No. California's Department of Toxic Substances Control treats most discarded electronics and batteries as universal waste, which is banned from household and business trash. Being in an unincorporated area doesn't change that. Lithium tool batteries are a particular risk, since a crushed pack can start a fire in a garbage truck.
Our recycling center is at 3921 Pell Circle in Sacramento, and it's where every Bay Point load is processed. Businesses don't have to bring anything to us, though they can deliver loads through our business drop-off. Residents and home offices can recycle electronics through Secure Recycle, our sister company at the same address. We don't pick up from homes.

No obligation. We respond same business day.
Reviews
A little bit off the beaten track in Natomas, but Modern Waste quickly and efficiently helped me recycle my broken Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries at a reasonable $/lb fee (Sac county e-waste will not accept these items). Ramiro and Vincent were very friendly and helpful.
Chris was awesome! He came in and picked up all of the e-waste we had ready for him. He was polite and professional throughout the entire process. He handled the equipment with care, including the site equipment that was already in place. I am very happy with his service and appreciate the great job he did.
