Carpinteria, CA, is a small seaside city located in southeastern Santa Barbara County, California. The city is situated on the Central Coast of California, approximately 12 miles southeast of Santa Barbara.

Carpinteria’s history dates back to pre-colonial times when it was home to a Chumash village known as Šujtu. The city’s name, La Carpinteria or “The Carpenter Shop,” was first used by the soldiers of the Gaspar de Portola expedition in 1769. Carpinteria was incorporated on September 28, 1965, and is governed by an elected five-member City Council and a City Manager appointed by the Council.

The city is known for its unique Spanish Colonial Revival and Mediterranean Revival architecture, which can be seen throughout the downtown area and residential neighborhoods. Carpinteria State Beach is a popular attraction, offering visitors a mile of beach for swimming, surf fishing, tidepool exploring, and camping.
