Bay Point is a census-designated place located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area in Contra Costa County, California. It was formerly known as West Pittsburg and originally Bella Vista. The total area of Bay Point is 7.44 square miles, with 11.7% of it being water. Bay Point does not have its own police department. The community is located on the southern shore of Suisun Bay and is just west of Pittsburg, California, and northeast of Concord, California. Bay Point is policed by the California Highway Patrol and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. The Pittsburg/Bay Point Station of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) rail system is located adjacent to Bay Point. The population of Bay Point was 24,999 as of the 2024 census. The largest ethnic groups in Bay Point are Other (Hispanic), White (Hispanic), and White (Non-Hispanic). Bay Point offers a diverse population, with a variety of outdoor activities and a relatively short commute to Oakland.
